The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) hosted guest lectures by the Maldives Police Service on 15 November 2024, providing Bachelor of Psychology students with practical insights into victimology as part of their Forensic Psychology module.

The session was attended by 15 students and two staff members, including Unaisa Saud and Mariyam Ifshan. The guest lectures complemented students’ academic learning by providing perspectives from professionals working within the criminal justice system.

The session introduced students to considerations surrounding victims and their experiences within the criminal justice process. Engagement with practitioners provided an opportunity for students to develop a broader understanding of how psychological perspectives can contribute to responses to victims and inform professional practice.

The guest lectures also enabled students to connect theoretical concepts from their Forensic Psychology studies with practical perspectives from the Maldivian context. Such exposure can strengthen students’ understanding of the roles and responsibilities of professionals working with victims and other individuals involved in the justice system.

The engagement further promoted knowledge exchange between The Maldives National University (MNU) and the Maldives Police Service, strengthening links between academic education and professional practice.

Practitioner-led learning opportunities form an important part of FHS’s approach to practice-oriented education, allowing students to gain insights beyond the classroom and develop a more contextual understanding of forensic psychology.

The initiative reflects FHS’s commitment to enriching student learning through professional engagement and strengthening collaboration with organisations relevant to psychology and the wider justice system.

The activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through practice-oriented and contextualised learning and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through knowledge exchange and collaboration between MNU and the Maldives Police Service.
