MNU Hosts First-Ever “MNU Saagaafee Sai – International Community Gathering”

Malé, Maldives – [27 September 2025] The Maldives National University  proudly hosted its inaugural “Saagaafee Sai – International Community Gathering”, an event that brought together international students, faculty, and the wider MNU community in a celebration of friendship, culture, and diversity.

The event, held on central campus, marks a historic milestone for the university, as it is the first time MNU has welcomed this number of international students simultaneously. Over 20 students from 10 different countries have joined MNU this semester, enriching the academic and cultural environment of the institution.

“Saagaafee Sai” refers to traditional Maldivian tea, symbolizing warmth, hospitality, and connection. The gathering introduced this cultural element to international students while providing a platform for them to engage in dialogue, exchange traditions, and foster lasting friendships.

Speaking at the event, MNU vice chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam extended a warm welcome to the international students, reaffirming the university’s commitment to ensuring that MNU is a true “home away from home.” Students were assured of the continuous support of the Student Dean, International Office, Registrar, Student Administrative Services, Student Support staff, and the Student Union throughout their journey at MNU.

The event featured traditional tea, cultural exchange, games, and performances, reflecting the richness and diversity of the student body. MNU announced that Saagaafee Sai will now become a regular event each semester, further strengthening the sense of belonging and inclusivity within the campus community. MNU remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive, safe, and vibrant environment where students from across the world can thrive academically, socially, and culturally.
