College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) in the Maldives is dedicated to education, research, and promoting sustainable practices in fisheries and marine sciences. As an island nation that heavily relies on marine resources, the Maldives benefits from CFOS’s contributions in advancing scientific knowledge and supporting marine conservation efforts. The college offers programs in marine biology, fisheries management, aquaculture, and oceanography. Through its research and educational initiatives, CFOS plays a key role in developing the fisheries industry while tackling critical challenges such as overfishing, coral reef protection, and climate change. The college also collaborates with national and international organizations to improve marine resource management and enhance livelihoods dependent on the ocean. As it continues to grow, CFOS plans to introduce new courses in additional fields.

As the Dean of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the Maldives National University, I am honored to address our vibrant community dedicated to the stewardship of our precious marine resources.

Our islands are surrounded by some of the most diverse and rich ecosystems in the world. It is our collective responsibility to ensure their sustainability for future generations. The challenges we face—such as climate change, overfishing, and habitat degradation—demand innovative solutions and a deep commitment to research and education.

At our faculty, we are committed to providing a comprehensive education that equips our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address these pressing issues. Our research initiatives aim to bridge the gap between scientific inquiry and practical application, fostering partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.

I encourage all of you to engage actively in our programs, share your insights, and collaborate on projects that can make a real difference. Together, we can advance sustainable practices that not only protect our marine biodiversity but also enhance the livelihoods of those who depend on these vital resources.

Let us continue to inspire one another as we work towards a more sustainable future for our oceans and our nation. Thank you for your dedication and passion.
