Dr. Mohamed Iyaz Abdul Latheef is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Shariah and Law, at the Maldives National University (MNU). He specializes in Hadith Studies, Qur’anic Sciences, Tafsir (Qur’anic Exegesis), Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh), and Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh).
He holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Revealed Knowledge from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), a Master’s degree in Hadith and Hadith Sciences from the International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Qira’at and Tafsir from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Mohamed Iyaz has extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Hadith, Tafsir, Islamic Jurisprudence, Qur’anic Arabic, and Islamic Studies. He has also contributed to curriculum development, research supervision, academic quality assurance, and scholarly publishing.
His research interests include Hadith al-Ahkam, Tafsir and Qur’anic Sciences, Comparative Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Maqasid al-Shariah, Contemporary Islamic Jurisprudence, Biomedical Ethics, and Islamic Finance. He has authored several books in the Dhivehi language and published articles in peer-reviewed international journals, contributing to the advancement of Islamic scholarship in the Maldives and beyond.
