The Maldives National University (MNU) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) on 6th November 2017, Monday. The Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef signed on behalf of MNU and Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, The Chancellor signed on behalf of IUM.
The objective of this MOU is to strengthen, promote and develop co-operation between both parties on the basis of equality and mutual benefit initially for a period of 5 years. In addition to sharing expertise, collaboration activities include resource sharing, promotion and organization of workshops, conferences, & training seminars, professional development activities for academic and administrative staff, and interlibrary loans for students and staff.
In his speech Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, stated “Today is a very happy and proud moment for us. It is a historical and notable day as the longstanding pillar of higher education, the Maldives National University enters into an agreement with the Islamic University Maldives, to support educational development.”
Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef addressed the gathering and stated that this MOU will assist both parties to strengthen and develop by sharing resources and carrying out collaborative activities. He contended the statement made by Dr. Shameem stating that even though IUM is a young institution he does not believe that IUM needs to be led and guided by MNU. IUM itself has advanced into a reputable and notable institution over a period of two years. He believes that the aim of the MOU is to pave ways for both parties to work side by side in the same direction to achieve common goals.
The MOU signing ceremony was held in the Islamic University Maldives Hall and was attended by Deans of Faculties & Centres, Head of Departments and Academic Staff of both MNU and IUM.
