Today, the first PhD program in business offered by Management and Science University of Malaysia (MSU) has commenced at the Maldives National University Business School. The Vice President Business and Social Sciences / Dean of Graduate School of Management from MSU, Professor Dr. Ali Khathibi, the Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of MNU, Ms. Aishath Shaheen were present to inaugurate the new PhD program.
The in-charge of the program, Professor Dr. Ali Khathibi in his interview stated that the objective of MSU is to support the human capital development of the country, especially at the academic level. The idea is to bring development to the country by creating opportunities to pursue PhD in Maldives that is affordable rather than going abroad for studies. MSU has initially commenced with a PhD program and will go on to offer Masters and Joint Degrees this year. It is envisioned to start MBBS in the very near future expecting to provide medical studies in the Maldives. He highlighted that the standard of the education will be the same as MSU Malaysia and the program will be carried with Malaysian lecturers and supervisors.
Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef also gave an interview to the media and stated that the purpose of this collaboration is to conduct joint programs and importance is placed to offer higher degree courses such as Masters and PhD. He also noted that this collaboration will assist to carry joint research programs in the field of business and management and go for a staff exchange program between both universities.
